Former heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko, who has been out of the ring since his 2017 bout with Anthony Joshua, is reportedly "all but completely committed" to a comeback in 2025. Now 48 years old, Klitschko’s potential return has reignited discussions about one of boxing’s most memorable champions stepping back into the spotlight for a high-profile fight.

Earlier rumors of a return emerged just before the rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, with Klitschko expressing disinterest in facing Usyk. However, after Usyk secured a second victory over Fury - effectively putting those comeback plans on hold - many assumed his return was off the table. A recent report on Ring Magazine’s website, though, now suggests that Klitschko remains determined to make a historic comeback in the coming year.

While no specific opponent has been named, sources indicate that Klitschko’s target is not Usyk. Instead, his aim appears to be to etch his name further in boxing history by challenging for the title and possibly breaking George Foreman's record as the oldest heavyweight champion ever. There is also speculation about a potential bout with the winner of the Daniel Dubois vs. Joe Parker fight, a contest that could lead to an IBF title challenge later this month.

Adding another layer to the developing story, Saudi promoter Turki Alalshikh has shown strong interest in facilitating Klitschko’s return, therefore high-level discussions may already be underway.
