Edgar Berlanga is eyeing a return to the ring in March 2025, potentially against veteran Gabriel Rosado in Puerto Rico. After a unanimous decision loss to Canelo Alvarez on September 14th in Las Vegas, Berlanga is looking to rebuild his momentum.

Despite the defeat, Berlanga received a hero’s welcome in Puerto Rico, where fans embraced him following his high-profile clash with Canelo. Although he lost on the scorecards (118-109, 117-110, 118-109), the Brooklyn native still enjoyed strong support from his Puerto Rican fans. The question is whether those same fans will stand by him if he struggles against an aging Rosado, who hasn’t won a fight since his upset knockout over Bektemir Melikuziev in 2021.

Rosado, turning 39 in January, is seen as a safe opponent to get Berlanga back in the win column. The Philadelphia fighter has dropped his last four bouts, but he remains a tough gatekeeper. For Berlanga, a win against Rosado could set up more lucrative opportunities, possibly leading to fights with contenders like Jaime Munguia or Diego Pacheco.

For now, Berlanga’s team is focused on ensuring his comeback fight in Puerto Rico goes smoothly. A victory over Rosado would keep him in the conversation for bigger paydays, but another loss could seriously damage his standing in the super middleweight division.
