Jaron "Boots" Ennis finds himself at a critical juncture in his career following his unanimous decision win over Karen Chukhadzhian last Saturday in Philadelphia. Despite the victory, Ennis faced criticism for his performance, with fans feeling the fight lacked the explosive moments they’ve come to expect from the IBF welterweight champion. As promoter Eddie Hearn put it, Ennis now has a significant decision to make regarding his next steps.

Hearn has hinted at a substantial offer for Ennis to move up to 154 lbs and face Vergil Ortiz Jr. for the WBC interim title. This potential fight could take place on one of the lucrative Riyadh Season events in Saudi Arabia, which would not only boost Ennis' financial earnings but also elevate his global profile. However, there’s a risk involved. If Ennis were to lose to Ortiz, it could severely impact his marketability.

Staying at welterweight to pursue unification fights remains an option, but the challenge is getting the other champions to step into the ring. "The fight with Vergil Ortiz is a brilliant opportunity," Hearn noted. "It’s one of the most exciting matchups in boxing right now, and it would take Boots to another level, especially if it happens in Saudi Arabia."

So, Ennis, who struggled to fully dominate Chukhadzhian despite a knockdown and a point deduction, now faces a dilemma. Does he stay in his comfort zone at 147, where big fights are elusive, or does he take the risk of moving up to 154 for a high-stakes bout against Ortiz?
