The final days of May promise a flurry of high-stakes action across three continents. From Caleb Plant’s return to a world title clash in Yokohama, this week offers something for every fan.
Plant, the former IBF champion, defends his interim WBA title against Mexico’s Resendiz at the Michelob Ultra Arena, aiming to secure a potential future showdown with Jermall Charlo, who also features on the card against Thomas LaManna. Undefeated Cuban power-puncher Yoenli Feliciano Hernandez faces Kyrone Davis at middleweight, while knockout artists Isaac Lucero and Luis Omar Valenzuela clash in an all-Mexican super welterweight battle. The event airs live on Prime Video.
Friday night sees Bektemir “Bek” Melikuziev square off against Darius Fulghum in a WBA super middleweight title eliminator at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. Fulghum impressed with a fourth-round KO of Winfred Harris Jr. in February, while Melikuziev edged David Stevens in his last outing. The undercard includes middleweight prospect Eric Priest facing Luis Arias, Santiago Dominguez against John Vincent Moralde, and Grant Flores taking on Jeovanis Barraza. The full event streams live on DAZN.
Also on Friday, a rematch in Guadalajara, Mexico, features Manuel Gallegos and Khalil Coe at light heavyweight. Gallegos stopped Coe in nine rounds last year in Philadelphia and aims to repeat that performance on home soil. Former unified super bantamweight champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev returns against Luis Castillo in a key undercard bout.
Midweek action begins in Japan, as Masanori Rikiishi and Eduardo “Sugar” Nunez meet on Wednesday, May 28, for the vacant IBF super featherweight title in Yokohama. The hard-hitting Nunez made waves with a stoppage of Miguel Marriaga last August, while Rikiishi enters off a second-round knockout of Arnel Baconaje. The DAZN-streamed card also includes Yoshiki Takei defending his WBO bantamweight title against Yuttapong Tongdee, and Tsubasa Narai defending the Japanese super featherweight belt against Yuna Hara.
