WBO has just ordered a new flyweight bout between current champion Anthony Olascuaga and former titleholder Jonathan “La Bomba” Gonzalez.

Olascuaga recently captured the vacant WBO flyweight title with an impressive third-round stoppage of Riku Kano in Japan this past July. At just 25 years old, Olascuaga is quickly making a name for himself in the boxing world. Trained by Rudy Hernandez in Los Angeles, Olascuaga has been extremely resilient, bouncing back from his only professional loss to Kenshiro Teraji in April 2023 with two consecutive victories.

Gonzalez, on the other hand, brings a wealth of experience to the table. The 33-year-old Puerto Rican fighter has had a storied career, primarily competing at flyweight before moving down to junior flyweight after knockout losses to Jobert Alvarez and Kosei Tanaka. In 2021, Gonzalez captured the WBO light-flyweight title with a split-decision victory over Elwin Soto and successfully defended it three times.

Managed by the renowned Amanda Serrano, Gonzalez is now aiming to become a two-division champion. His journey back to the flyweight division comes after a tumultuous 2023, marked by multiple bout cancellations.

So, the upcoming purse bid sets the stage for a fascinating bout, with Olascuaga's youthful vigor and recent momentum clashing against Gonzalez's experience and proven track record and we all look forward to an exciting fight that could potentially redefine the landscape of the flyweight division.
