Tim Tszyu is not one to sit idly by, even after a setback. Following his split decision loss to Sebastian Fundora on March 30th, a fight marked by a severe cut on his forehead, Tszyu has been recuperating and planning his next moves. The year began with high hopes, as Tszyu was set to face Keith Thurman in a headlining event, but fate had other plans. Thurman's injury brought Fundora into the ring on short notice, turning the bout into a unification match for the WBC junior middleweight belt.

Reflecting on the sudden change of opponents, Tszyu said, "It took me two days to process it and I said, alright, the fight's not over. We’ve got a new change and that's it."

Tim Tszyu adapted quickly, working with his team to prepare for the tall southpaw Sebastian Fundora. The match started well for Tszyu, who landed solid right hands and appeared to be on his way to victory until an accidental elbow opened a deep gash on his forehead. Despite the injury, Tszyu continued to press forward, but the obstructed vision allowed Fundora to gain the upper hand as the fight went on. Fundora ultimately won by split decision, capturing the WBC and WBO super welterweight titles.

The fight was a brutal test of endurance and willpower. Tszyu recalled feeling in control initially but acknowledged that the cut disrupted his focus.

"In my eyes, I could have done better. I still believe I could have knocked him out," he said, reflecting on the fight's outcome.

Tszyu's return has been delayed further due to the advice of his doctor, who recommended more time for his forehead to heal properly. A proposed August 3rd match against Vergil Ortiz was canceled, much to Tszyu's frustration. "You've always got, like, a date to work towards and a goal," he explained. Despite the lack of a fixed date, Tszyu has remained focused on his growth and preparation, balancing recovery with improvement.

Looking ahead, Tszyu is eager to announce his next fight and return to the ring.

"You don't win everything in life. When you take two steps backward, you're going to leap another 20 steps forward. I'm coming for it all now, man."
