On yesterday’s fight night, Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) faced Aaron Chalmers (1-0, 0 KOs) in an exhibition 8-round bout at the well known O2 Arena in United Kingdom.
It was an odd night in London, with dismal ticket sales and the event being postponed in the misguided belief that supporters would attend in droves. The main attraction was a confrontation between two American reality TV stars that showed neither had even looked at their boxing gloves in the build-up.
Yet Mayweather did what he does best, cruising to the final eight rounds while putting on a clinic for an audience that appeared to be mostly made up of his entourage. Although the legendary 50-0 fighter displayed his signature head movement and scored a number of clean left hooks, he never really seemed to want to press for a knockout.
Chalmers let his hands go more and more as the fight went on, but with very little result. He will now focus on pursuing fights with people like Jake Paul, Tommy Fury, and KSI.
As it was an exhibition bout, both men's hands were raised with no official winner.
In the co-main event, Natalie Nunn stopped her bitter rival Tommie Lee. The celebrity "battle" lasted less than ten minutes as Lee tried to play keep-away but was essentially destroyed by Nunn. The bout was also halted and started several times.
