Edgar Berlanga is gearing up for the biggest fight of his career as he prepares to take on the super-middleweight king, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, on September 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Berlanga is exuding confidence and believes he can pull off a stunning upset.
The pre-fight hype has been intense, with both fighters engaging in a heated war of words during the media tour. Canelo taunted Berlanga with provocative gestures and harsh words. Berlanga, however, was quick to fire back, asserting that he has both the brains and the brawn to dethrone the future hall-of-famer.
Berlanga knows that he’s facing a daunting task in his first world-title shot, but he’s fully committed to giving it everything he’s got. "The trash talk is part of the sport—fuck him," Berlanga said.
"This is business. He's going to try to kill me in front of my family, and I'm going to do the same to him. I never fear no one. I'm going to go out on my shield, and he better go out on his."

Despite his bravado, Berlanga acknowledges the vast experience gap between him and Alvarez. With only 72 rounds fought in his career compared to Alvarez’s 496, the Brooklyn-based Puerto Rican has a steep learning curve ahead. However, Berlanga believes his training and intelligence will give him an edge.
"I am training for IQ, intelligence, and being smart," he said. "Anyone who beat Canelo had that."
Berlanga also took aim at Alvarez’s popularity, particularly among Mexican fans, and predicted a sixth-round knockout, two rounds sooner than Canelo’s own prediction.
"A lot of Mexicans don't like [Alvarez]," Berlanga claimed. "I go to Mexico a lot. They don't like him. His people are my fans. They like us. Puerto Ricans don't hate on me crazy like that. He's shit. He has money, but money doesn't make you."
As the fight approaches, Berlanga remains unwavering in his belief that he can deliver a knockout blow to one of boxing's greatest fighters.
"He's just talking shit. I don't give a fuck. He knows what's up. I looked right through him. Like Tony Montana said in the movie Scarface, 'The eyes don't lie, chico'. And you can see it in my eyes, I fear no man."
