On Saturday night at the Zenith de Paris-La Villette, Paris, in the main event, Carlos Takam (40-7-1, 28 KOs) was having a bout with a tough Tony Yoka (11-2, 9 KOs).
As a result of the fight, Carlos Takam, a former heavyweight world title challenger proved that he still has plenty left in the tank by securing a decisive 10-round split decision victory over Tony Yoka, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist. The scores were 96-94, 96-94 in favor of Takam, and 96-94 in favor of Yoka.
Yoka's defeat against the highly ranked contender Martin Bakole in May 2020 could be seen as one thing, but this one-sided loss against the 42-year-old Takam might spell the end of his career. This loss has clearly demonstrated that Yoka is not well-suited for the professional boxing arena.
After the fight, Yoka appeared to be on the verge of tears, and even Takam's attempts to console him proved futile. The defeat appears to have hit Yoka too strong, leaving him with the realization that he may not have the required attributes to continue fighting at a professional level.
In the undercard, Dan Azeez (19-0, 13 KOs) triumphed over Thomas Faure (21-5-1, 2 KOs) in a challenging fight for the European light heavyweight title. In the twelfth round, Azeez broke down Faure and stopped him but despite his defeat, Faure displayed grit and resilience throughout the match. However, he was unhappy with the stoppage, indicating that he may have wished to continue fighting.
