Teofimo Lopez Sr., the father, and trainer of professional boxer Teofimo Lopez is challenging the established narratives in boxing. Several names like Canelo Alvarez, Anthony Joshua, and more recently, Gervonta Davis, have dominated the spotlight as the faces of the sport. But Lopez Sr. begs to differ and believes that his son's potential reign is imminent.

This Saturday night at New York’s Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden, Lopez Sr. will walk his son, Teofimo Lopez, to the ring where they will face current WBO super lightweight champion and former undisputed champ, Josh Taylor. While the senior Lopez acknowledges other fighters’ hard work and dedication to climbing the sport’s hierarchy, he firmly believes that his son’s performance will overshadow their efforts. “After this fight, my son is the king of boxing,” Lopez Sr. confidently stated in a recent interview.

Canelo Alvarez is largely considered the sport’s top draw and most recognizable figure, and while Lopez Sr. lauds Alvarez’s accomplishments, he insists that his son’s time is nigh. Despite the packed arenas and millions of pay-per-view buys that Alvarez commands, Lopez Sr. perceives these as the waning moments of Alvarez’s reign, making way for his son, Teofimo Lopez, to emerge as boxing's next megastar.
