The WBA "regular" lightweight champion, Gervonta "Tank" Davis, has been detained and charged with battery — domestic violence — in Broward County, Florida, dealing a severe blow to Showtime's PPV event on January 7, 2022.

Tank Davis (27-0, 25 KOs), 28, was brought into custody on Tuesday, and the cops took a mug shot of him.

At this point, it is unclear whether Tank Davis' arrest will have an effect on either his Showtime PPV fight on April 15 against Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) or his battle on January 7 against the still-undefeated Hector Garcia (16-0, 10 KOs).

Gervonta Davis has had also problems with police enforcement in the past. He is reported to have been involved in a hit-and-run incident in November 2020. After running a red light and colliding with a Toyota carrying four people—including a pregnant woman—Tank is now charged with 14 offenses. According to police, Davis allegedly left the scene in a black Camaro that had just arrived there following the collision.

In February 2020, Davis was also detained and accused of domestic violence in connection with an incident involving his girlfriend over the Super Bowl weekend. On December 13, 2022, Miami-Dade prosecutors dropped the allegations after more than two years.

For the 28-year-old Davis, there is a chance of receiving a sentence of up to 50 months in prison. It goes without saying that doing so much time in jail would be disastrous for Tank's career.
