In the wake of the recent IBF lightweight title eliminator, Shakur Stevenson voiced strong criticism over the majority decision victory of George Kambosos Jr. over Maxi Hughes. Echoing the sentiment of many fans and boxing experts, Stevenson labeled the result as nothing short of a “robbery,” with a unanimous conviction that Hughes was the clear winner of the bout.
In a candid interview with Bernardo Osuna, Stevenson unequivocally expressed his disappointment over the verdict. “I thought it was a robbery. I thought Maxi boxed well, and I thought he was the better fighter,” he stated. He then moved on to demand greater accountability from the judging panel, insisting that their decisions had the potential to distort the true essence of boxing.
Turning the conversation towards his own ambitions, Stevenson made it clear he had no intention of squaring off with Kambosos, underlining his desire to take on the best in the boxing world. “As of right now, Kambosos is not on my level. I want to fight the Lomachenkos, the Devin Haneys, the Gervonta Davis,” he affirmed.
Stevenson concluded the interview on a defiant note, voicing his readiness to face Vasily Lomachenko if Devin Haney vacates his title, and assuring his potential triumph over Kambosos if a fight between them ever materializes. “If they don’t fight me, we can make it happen, and I’m going to stop you,” he stated, demonstrating his confidence and drive in the face of future boxing confrontations.
