The World Boxing Council has officially requested additional information from Ryan Garcia as part of their ongoing investigation into his failed drug tests following his bout against Devin Haney.
Garcia, 25, was initially disqualified from winning the WBC super-lightweight title due to coming in overweight for the April fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Despite this, he managed to dominate Haney, inflicting multiple knockdowns and securing a majority decision victory. Post-fight, however, Garcia tested positive for ostarine, a banned substance, which he claims was not ingested intentionally.
Garcia’s legal team has maintained his innocence, arguing that the positive test results were due to supplement contamination.
"We have consistently maintained Ryan was a victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally used any banned or performance-enhancing substances."
Ostarine has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) since 2008 and is classified as an anabolic agent. The WBC detailed their process in a statement, noting that both the 'A' and 'B' samples collected from Garcia on April 19 and 20 yielded adverse findings for ostarine. The organization provided Garcia with the right to witness the opening of the 'B' sample, which also tested positive.

The WBC's Result Management Unit has requested further information from Garcia to determine the circumstances leading to these adverse findings. The unit expects to receive the necessary documentation by the end of June. Meanwhile, the WBC continues to investigate the pharmacological properties of ostarine, the specifics of Garcia’s test results, and any possible explanations for the adverse findings.
