It was a battle of the titans in the bantamweight division at the Whitesands Events Center in Plant City, Florida, Wednesday night. Saul “The Beast” Sanchez (19-2, 12 KOs) went head to head with Franklin Gonzalez (25-3, 25 KOs) in a slugfest that had spectators on the edge of their seats. Sanchez, known for his aggressive approach, took the lead early on while Gonzalez put up a strong defense with his boxing skills. The fighters seemed to revel in the heated exchange, landing blow after blow with deafening impact.
Sanchez proved too much for Gonzalez, scoring a knockdown in the fourth round with a body shot. He continued his assault on Gonzalez, leading to three more knockdowns in the sixth round, again focusing on body shots. The punishing blows finally brought the intense fight to a close at the 2:03 mark, with Sanchez emerging victorious.
In other bouts of the night, lightweight Jonhatan Cardoso (16-1, 15 KOs) upset 19-year-old prodigy Oscar Alvarez Jr. (9-1, 7 KOs), who reportedly had a whopping 677 amateur fights under his belt. Cardoso knocked Alvarez into the ropes in the first round and continued to bombard him with clean shots, leading to a referee’s stoppage in the third round at 1:56. Meanwhile, unbeaten super featherweight Dominic Valle (6-0, 5 KOs) secured a victory over Carlos Rosario (6-2, 3 KOs) with a referee’s stoppage at 2:59 of round six.
