Following a one-sided defeat to WBC titleholder Devin Haney in December, Prograis is ready to reestablish himself as a top contender in the 140-pound division, which includes notable fighters like Haney, Teofimo Lopez Jr., Isaac Cruz, Subriel Matias, Jose Ramirez, Jack Catterall, Richardson Hitchins, Gary Antuanne Russell, Rolando “Rolly” Romero, Sandor Martin, Dalton Smith, and former undisputed champion Josh Taylor.
Despite being 35 years old, Prograis remains confident in his abilities and his place in the division. "Every time someone fights at 140 pounds, the division is shifting," Prograis told BoxingScene. "They look bad, and then they look good. The cards keep shifting, but I am still in the mix. It's all about the bounce back. The greatest fighters have done it, which I plan on doing, too. My goal is to become a three-time world champion."

Prograis is eager to return to the ring and face top-tier opponents. He specifically mentioned Smith, Catterall, and Matias as potential targets for his comeback, all of whom are signed to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, like Prograis. "Give me a comeback fight and let's get into them. I want to fight good fighters. I want the belts. … Boxing is crazy, and sometimes you don't get the fights you want,” he said.
Prograis first captured a 140-pound title in 2019 by stopping Kiryl Relikh but lost the belt in a close and competitive majority decision to Taylor in a Fight of the Year contender. He rebounded by knocking out Jose Zepeda in 2022, reaffirming his world title aspirations. Now, he is ready to follow a similar blueprint to achieve a third title in the division he plans to retire in.
Reflecting on his journey, Prograis emphasized his commitment to self-improvement and his unwavering belief in his ability to regain championship status. "I’m self-reflecting to get better," said Prograis, who recently published a book about his life. "It makes no sense to risk your life if you don't want to get better. I'm about investing in myself. I have no doubt in my mind that I will be a world champion once again."
