Paulie Malignaggi, an observant voice in boxing, has voiced reservations about the direction of Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade’s career. Although Andrade showcased supreme talent for over a decade, securing world titles in two weight divisions, Malignaggi feels he’s been denied opportunities against top-tier opponents.
Speaking with ProBox TV, Malignaggi expressed his regret: “The shame of Boo Boo Andrade is he’s probably one of, if not the most talented guy of this generation. Yet, we never saw him against the highest level opponents at his best.”
Things are set to change on November 25th, when Andrade faces David Benavidez, the interim WBC super middleweight champion. While this is the kind of matchup Andrade has been waiting for, Malignaggi is skeptical. Citing Andrade’s age of 35, he’s worried the boxer might not be at his peak.
Malignaggi’s final thoughts encapsulate the bittersweet nature of the situation: “Longtime coming for Demetrius Andrade in getting a big fight. Almost a bit too long, unfortunately.”
