Jaron "Boots" Ennis is set to defend his IBF World Welterweight title against David Avanesyan at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 13, live worldwide on DAZN.

Ennis will defend his title in a highly anticipated homecoming. The 26-year-old Germantown native hasn’t fought in his hometown since November 2018. This bout marks his return to the ring just over a year after his impressive 10th-round KO victory over Roiman Villa in Atlantic City, where he defended his interim title before being promoted to full champion status.

David Avanesyan aims to become a world champion for the second time. He was previously elevated to WBA champion after winning the interim title in May 2016 against "Sugar" Shane Mosley, though he narrowly lost the title in his defense against Lamont Peterson in 2017. The 35-year-old UK-based Armenian has also contended for the WBO crown against Terence Crawford in December 2022. Avanesyan steps in to replace Cody Crowley, who was ruled out for medical reasons, and Ennis believes Avanesyan will present an even more challenging fight for the Philly crowd.

"Now that Crowley is officially not my opponent, I actually like Avanesyan as a better opponent,” said Ennis. "He will put up a better fight, which is what I want. July 13, don’t miss this beautiful, outstanding performance!"

Avanesyan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging Ennis’ skills and reputation:

"Jaron Ennis is a world-class boxer who I respect highly and is a potential huge star, and on July 13, we will find out if he is the real deal. I promise all fans I will give everything to win this World title, this is my last World title chance and I have to take it. I do respect Ennis and his career as he has been perfect, but he has what I want and need."
