Jaron Ennis will have his first Matchroom Boxing fight in his hometown of Philadelphia after securing more than one purse bid for his mandatory IBF world welterweight title fight against Cody Crowley in a purse bid on Friday.
Last week, the Philadelphian was officially revealed by Matchroom, who revealed that they won the bid at $3.9 million U.S. dollars. TGB Promotions’ offer was $2 million only, and they were representing Crowley in the purse bid. The back-and-forth discussion over Ennis and Crowley went on for several months due to many delays and postponements.
The IBF had initially mandated the clash on January 31, with March 1 and 19 listing the deadlines to reach an agreement. March 26 was also cancelled after the IBF got a letter from TGB stating that both parties had come to an agreement. This did not happen, and on April 10, Ennis signed a long-term contract with Matchroom Boxing.
The IBF, as a result, had to seek bids for the IBF show between Ennis and Crowley according to their new promotional participation. According to IBF regulations, the champion is guaranteed 85 percent of the box revenue, which totals $3,323,500. Crowley, ranked No. 3 is assured of a $586,500 purse.
Eddie Hearn got in touch with his in-house media team and indicated that a date in July was on the line.
