Top Rank boss Bob Arum has confirmed that negotiations for a unification bout between IBF lightweight champion Vasily Lomachenko and WBA regular champ Gervonta "Tank" Davis will resume next week. If finalized, this clash will see both Davis’ WBA and Lomachenko’s IBF titles on the line, creating a highly anticipated unification showdown. The winner will be recognized as the premier fighter in the lightweight division.
Arum aims to schedule the Tank vs. Lomachenko fight for November or December, offering a blockbuster event to close out the year for boxing fans.
To defeat Lomachenko, Davis will need to elevate his boxing. His usual strategy of waiting for the perfect moment to land a knockout punch might not work against the elusive Lomachenko. A two-time Olympic gold medalist, Lomachenko has faced and defeated fighters with styles similar to Davis throughout his career, potentially outclassing him.

Arum mentioned that the negotiations between Tank and Lomachenko are a continuation of previous talks. If Team Tank is genuinely interested in this fight, it will likely happen next. Lomachenko has been calling out Davis for the past seven years, but has met resistance each time. Should the Davis-Lomachenko fight fall through, Davis may consider matches against Ryan Garcia or Shakur Stevenson, two other fighters he expressed interest in recently.
A rematch with Ryan Garcia could be complicated due to Garcia’s potential suspension by the New York State Athletic Commission, which might sideline him until next year.
