Vasily Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, has revealed that the IBF lightweight champion is currently not motivated to fight Gervonta “Tank” Davis. According to Klimas, Lomachenko is “not in the mood” for a bout right now and will not be fighting until later this year. This decision follows Lomachenko’s 11th-round knockout victory over George Kambosos Jr. on May 12th.

Klimas clarified that Lomachenko is not retiring but wants to spend more time with his family. The fighter is taking a break, and it’s uncertain how this will impact the anticipated unification fight with Tank Davis which was tentatively expected for November at the earliest. ”Loma is not in the mood right now, he doesn’t have the motivation at the moment. He’s taking off; he wants to spend more time with the family. He doesn’t want to do anything till the end of the year,” Klimas told Steve Kim on X.

Many fans on social media have speculated that Lomachenko, 36, is avoiding the fight with Gervonta, but Klimas dismisses these claims. Lomachenko has been seeking a match with Davis for the last six years. If Lomachenko wants to take the rest of the year off, Tank and his team might need to look for other opponents for a fight in November or December, unless they decide to take a break for the remainder of 2024 as well.

WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson would likely jump at the opportunity to fight Tank Davis if the Lomachenko bout is postponed. Davis only fought once in 2023 against Ryan Garcia, so waiting until 2025 for a fight with Lomachenko might not be a significant issue.

“So he’s definitely not coming to the ring until the end of the year. With Loma, just money is not what motivates him. He doesn’t take anything just because of money.”

“You can offer him millions, tens of millions of dollars. If he doesn’t have motivation, he’s not ready to prepare for the fight. (Lomachenko) is not retired,” Klimas stated.
