Former lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. has signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, DiBella Entertainment Inc., and Ferocious Promotions as he sets his sights on becoming a two-weight world champion. The Australian star will begin his journey at 140 lbs in early 2025, with an event to be announced soon.

Kambosos became a household name after his stunning victory over Teofimo Lopez in November 2021, capturing the lightweight world titles in New York. Despite two close losses to Devin Haney in 2022, Kambosos rebounded with a victory over Maxi Hughes in 2023 and challenged Vasiliy Lomachenko for the IBF title earlier this year.

The 31-year-old now steps into the competitive junior welterweight division, which includes elite names and potential blockbuster matchups. Kambosos has expressed excitement about his new direction and partnership with Matchroom, a promoter he credits for some of his career-defining moments.

"I’m officially announcing my move to the 140-pound division," Kambosos stated. "Matchroom will provide the platform I need to achieve continued success and build my legacy."

Promoter Eddie Hearn echoed the sentiment, emphasizing Kambosos’ ability to shine on the big stage. "George’s addition to the stacked 140-pound division raises the stakes. A potential showdown with Liam Paro could be huge if Liam defends his IBF title successfully next month."
