The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has mandated a title defense for South Africa’s Sivenathi Nontshinga against mandatory challenger Christian Araneta from the Philippines in a rematch for the light flyweight world title. This decision comes after Nontshinga successfully reclaimed the IBF world title in a February 16 rematch against Adrian Curiel in Oaxaca, Mexico, overcoming a previous defeat that had been one of the year's major upsets.

Following their initial encounter in April 2021, where Nontshinga narrowly defeated Araneta in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, this rematch is highly anticipated. The IBF has given both parties until April 4 to reach an agreement; failing that, a purse bid will be initiated. The fight is expected to take place on or before May 4, as per the IBF Championship Committee's directive.

Araneta, after losing to Nontshinga, has compiled a five-fight winning streak, including a notable first-round knockout over Arvin Magramo, securing his position as the IBF's mandatory challenger. This upcoming rematch not only provides Araneta with a chance for redemption but also sets the stage for an exciting clash in the light flyweight division.
