Eddie Hearn is hoping to set up a bout between undefeated super middleweight contender Edgar Berlanga and veteran boxer Gennadiy Golovkin, despite Berlanga’s lackluster performance in recent fights. Hearn’s decision seems based on the potential marquee value of this matchup and the hope that a victory over someone of Golovkin's caliber could pique the interest of Canelo Alvarez for a 2024 showdown. However, securing Golovkin’s participation would require a substantial financial offer.

Critics argue that Berlanga’s weak showing in previous fights indicate a lack of the requisite talent to go against a fighter like Golovkin. The former IBF, WBA & WBC 160-lb champion, although not in his prime, is still seen as a formidable opponent and his possible engagement in the fight could pose a significant threat to Berlanga.

Despite this, Berlanga remains optimistic, acknowledging the pressure from his community expecting a knockout. As anticipation builds, some suggest that Hearn should focus more on aiding Berlanga's improvement rather than merely securing a high-profile opponent to sell out Madison Square Garden.
