Devin Haney’s (30-0, 15 KOs) triumphant win over Vasiliy Lomachenko at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas two weeks ago left the boxing community buzzing with excitement. While his victory has been deemed controversial by some, Haney’s win has struck a chord with 28-year-old lightweight contender Frank Martin (17-0, 12 KOs), who now sets his sights on the undisputed champion.
Martin watched the 12-round title fight with an analytical eye, intrigued by the unfolding dynamics. Despite the contest’s contentious nature, Martin supports the verdict in Haney’s favor, acknowledging the tight competition yet insisting that Haney did just enough to secure the win. Now, with Haney comfortably situated on his undisputed throne, Martin remains optimistic about his chances to face off against the pound-for-pound star.
Rather than divulging any explicit strategies for an eventual showdown with Haney, Martin promises an arsenal of tactics, stating, “I’ll mix it up... I’ll do a little bit of everything,” during an interview with MillCity Boxing. A largely underestimated fighter throughout his career, Martin celebrated a significant win over Michel Rivera in 2022, further bolstering his confidence.
To continue his impressive trajectory, Martin is set to return to the ring on July 15 in Las Vegas, against the undefeated Artem Harutyunyan. The possibility of landing an undisputed shot against Haney this year remains a topic of speculation, but Martin doesn’t shy away from voicing his conviction regarding their potential showdown's outcome. He confidently proclaims, “I’ll stop Haney. I’ll stop him.”
