In a monumental boxing event, rivals Terence Crawford (39-0, 30 KOs) and Errol Spence Jr. (28-0, 22 KOs) are set to battle for the undisputed welterweight championship. The highly anticipated bout will take place in Las Vegas on July 29, marking one of the most eagerly awaited contests since the iconic Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao showdown in 2015. Both American fighters announced the fight on their social media platforms, with Crawford declaring, “Everybody come out, show support and watch me fry this fish.”
The upcoming contest has stirred considerable excitement, promising potential pound-for-pound supremacy for the victor. The match has been in the pipeline for years but never materialized until now. “Finally giving the fans what they want,” Spence Jr expressed on his social media. The 33-year-old fighter, arriving as the reigning WBC, WBA, and IBF champion, also added, “This one a throwback fight on paper, but it could be a one-sided ass-whooping, one of the biggest fights of the century.”
The bout will test both fighters’ mettle, as Crawford last fought in December, securing a sixth-round knockout against David Avanesyan. Spence Jr., on the other hand, will step into the ring after more than a year of competitive inactivity. His most recent outing was a victory over Yordenis Ugas in April 2022, marking his only fight since defeating Danny Garcia in December 2020. A planned bout with Manny Pacquiao was cancelled due to a retinal tear in Spence’s left eye. As these titans prepare to collide, fans worldwide eagerly await what is being billed as a fight for the ages.
