The long-awaited British grudge match between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn could soon be finalized, with promoter Eddie Hearn optimistic that an agreement will be reached within two weeks. This showdown, which was derailed in October 2022 due to Benn’s failed VADA tests, is once again within striking distance.

Benn, who faced a turbulent legal battle following his two positive tests for the banned substance clomiphene, had his provisional suspension lifted earlier this month. UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) has until November 27 to appeal the decision. Should the appeal deadline pass without issue, Benn will be clear to fight in the UK, though he has yet to reapply for his British Boxing Board of Control license.

"Conor Benn is back and ready," said Hearn. "He’s one of the biggest stars in British boxing and is eager to get in the ring. The Eubank fight has always been the priority."

Eubank Jr., who rebounded impressively with a stoppage win over Liam Smith in their September rematch, is keen to settle the score with Benn. The rivalry carries a rich family history, echoing the iconic clashes between their fathers, Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr., in the 1990s.

For Benn, the division he competes in next depends on the opponent. While a world title challenge against Mario Barrios for the WBC welterweight belt is an option, Hearn emphasized the magnitude of the Eubank fight. "This is one of the biggest fights in British boxing," Hearn said. "The build-up, the narrative - it’s all there. It’s a must-make fight."
