Daniel Dubois marked his 27th birthday in a symbolic fashion by smashing a birthday cake modeled after his upcoming opponent, Anthony Joshua, ahead of their September 21st fight at Wembley Stadium.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has been working to rebuild Joshua after his two consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Since his August 2022 defeat, Hearn has carefully selected opponents for Joshua, giving him a string of confidence-boosting victories against lesser-known fighters. However, critics argue that these “easy” fights haven’t truly restored Joshua to his former glory and that Hearn’s efforts are merely a Band-Aid to prolong his career and continue cashing in on Joshua’s star power.

Dubois, who currently holds the IBF heavyweight title, is looking to knock Joshua off his pedestal and prove the oddsmakers wrong. While Joshua’s camp believes that he’s better than ever under the guidance of trainer Ben Davison, Dubois isn’t buying the hype. Davison has focused on improving Joshua’s right-hand punch, but Dubois and his team remain confident that the string of lesser opponents Joshua has faced recently—such as Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin—hasn’t truly tested his abilities.

Joshua, who remains a fan favorite in the UK, has seen his popularity continue despite recent struggles. Still, Dubois is determined to derail the narrative that Joshua has returned to his best, aiming to deliver a knockout blow to end the two-time champion’s run at the top.
