After learning the whole nature of the injuries he sustained against Kevin Lerena earlier this month, Daniel Dubois will likely need to take a significant amount of time off from boxing. Unfortunately, he was severely knocked out in the first round of the battle before being knocked out twice more as it became apparent that the initial shot had inflicted more damage than initially believed.
Dubois, who owns the WBA regular belt, will be out of action until the middle of 2023 after it has been confirmed that he has torn his ACL. This is after the dust has settled following the up-and-down brawl.
“Well, it’s interesting, Dan has a tear on his ACL,” said the father of Dubois’ trainer Barry McGuigan when speaking to Pro Boxing Fans.
"As soon as we got the news that he had a tear on his ACL, suddenly he was offered the fight, [with Usyk] which he can’t have. He can’t box for six months now anyway because of the repair time.”
