In a night of riveting boxing action, the Hula Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York played host to a bout between former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) and WBO light welterweight champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs). On the West Coast at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, California, super middleweight Jaime Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs) locked horns with Sergiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KOs).

Taylor, a former undisputed 140-lb champion, found himself on the back foot after the third round, as Lopez seized control with his superior hand speed and accuracy. Ultimately, it was Lopez’s night as he dethroned Taylor with an impressive twelve round unanimous decision, the judges calling it 115-113, 115-113, and 117-111. It was a masterclass from Lopez that marked a significant milestone in his career.

The New York undercard kept the energy high, with a series of intense bouts. Highlights include junior middleweight Xander Zayas (16-0, 10 KOs) securing an eight-round unanimous decision against Ronald Cruz (18-3-1, 12 KOs), light welterweight prospect Omar Rosario (11-0, 3 KOs) narrowly defeating Jan Carlos Rivera (8-2, 6 KOs), and heavyweight prospect Damian Knyba (12-0, 7 KOs) staying unbeaten against Helaman Olguin (9-6-1, 4 KOs).

Meanwhile, in Ontario, California, Munguia survived a tough challenge from Derevyanchenko, pulling out a victory with a 12th round body shot knockdown. The judges gave Munguia a narrow win with scores 114-113, 115-112, and 114-113. Despite the tough fight, Munguia kept his perfect record intact.

Ontario’s undercard produced fireworks as well. Super middleweight contender Shane Mosley Jr (20-4, 11 KOs) earned a seventh-round stoppage against D’Mitrius Ballard (21-2-1, 13 KOs), while female super bantamweight Mayeli Flores (10-1-1, 3 KOs) triumphed over Mariana ‘Barbie’ Juarez (55-13-4, 19 KOs) in a ten round unanimous decision. Unbeaten featherweight prospect Jorge Chavez (7-0, 5 KOs) defeated Christian Lorenzo (3-5, 1 KO) by a six round unanimous decision, and junior middleweight prospect Anthony Saldivar (4-0, 2 KO) halted Jerome Clayton (2-2-1, 2 KOs) in the second round.
