Callum Smith (29-1, 21 KOs) is prepared to dethrone Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs) as the undisputed light heavyweight champion in a contest that may happen this summer.

The WBC's president Mauricio Sulaiman said on January 31, that mandatory challenger Callum Smith must come up next for Beterbiev.

According to Callum, the 38-year-old Beterbiev isn't "invincible," and old age will eventually catch up with him. He claims he's hoping it will happen the week of the fight so he can take advantage of the more experienced Beterbiev to win all three of his championships.

“I’ve done my part. I’ve become mandatory so I can sit and wait and fight for three of the belts,” said Callum Smith in an interview with Sky Sports. “If I’m good enough to beat Beterbiev, which I believe I am, I should be good enough to beat anyone else. I believe I can beat anyone on the planet.”

Previously, to become the WBC mandatory challenger, Smith simply had to defeat France's Mathieu Bauderlique, who had once been eliminated in the first round by unknown Dragan Lepei in 2017.
