On Saturday, July 29, future Hall of Famer Nonito Donaire (42-7, 28 KOs) of the Philippines will clash with Mexican contender Alexandro Santiago (27-3-5, 14 KOs) for the vacant WBC bantamweight title. The exciting bout will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and is a part of the highly anticipated card headlined by Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford’s unprecedented undisputed welterweight crown fight. This event will be broadcast live on Showtime PPV, while Australian viewers can catch the action live on Main Event on Kayo on July 30.
Originally scheduled for July 15, the match between Donaire and Santiago is now the second fight of the Spence vs Crawford pay-per-view action. The previously announced co-feature will witness Isaac Cruz squaring off against undefeated Giovanni Cabrera in a 12-round WBC and WBA lightweight title eliminator. Yoenis Tellez and Sergio Garcia are set to kick-start the action in a ten-round super welterweight contest.
Nonito Donaire, one of the most accomplished active fighters, has previously held titles across multiple weight classes including flyweight, bantamweight, super bantamweight, and featherweight. The Filipino boxer is aiming to make another title run in the bantamweight division following his defeat to Naoya Inoue in their June 2022 rematch. On the other hand, Alexandro Santiago of Tijuana, Mexico, enters the fight on a three-bout winning streak, ready to compete for a bantamweight title for the first time in his career.
