Former heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz observes that Anthony Joshua is rediscovering the aggressive style that marked his earlier career before encountering Ruiz’s powerful punches. Ruiz, who famously upset Joshua in 2019 at Madison Square Garden by knocking him down four times and winning three heavyweight titles, noted that Joshua seemed cautious and reserved after their first fight. However, following Joshua’s recent knockouts, including a spectacular one against Francis Ngannou, Ruiz believes Joshua is regaining his former assertiveness and confidence.
Speaking in Manhattan at a press conference to announce his upcoming fight against Jarrell Miller, Ruiz expressed enthusiasm about Joshua's comeback, saying, “He’s getting his momentum back. He’s getting his confidence back. I think that’s the most important thing. He’s doing what he’s supposed to do. I’m just happy for him. I would love to have that trilogy with him.”
Ruiz also commented on the quality of Joshua's recent opponents, suggesting that while Joshua has performed well, the true test would come against more skilled fighters who are genuinely competitive, rather than those just showing up for a paycheck.
Looking forward, Ruiz is focused on his own career, aiming to become a two-time heavyweight champion.
