Keyshawn Davis, a promising lightweight contender, has mentioned that he would have already squared off against his former rival from the amateur days, Andy Cruz, if he had a say in his matchups at Top Rank. Davis, who faced Cruz four times in the amateurs without a win, sees a professional showdown with the Cuban as a daunting challenge. Despite Cruz having only three professional fights under his belt, he has openly challenged Davis.

Eddie Hearn from Matchroom Sports, who promotes Andy Cruz, is keen on setting up the fight as he views it as a great opportunity for Cruz to make a statement. However, Top Rank's matchmaking team is wary of pairing Davis against Cruz due to the potential risks it could pose to Davis's career. While acknowledging Davis's talent, they understand that Cruz presents an elevated level of competition that could alter Davis's career trajectory significantly if they were to meet in the ring.

Despite recognizing Cruz's prowess, Keyshawn Davis remains steadfast in his confidence and expresses his strong eagerness to finally face off against him and resolve their longstanding rivalry.

"If I had complete control over my next opponent's choice. Andy Cruz would have been my first pick."

This Saturday, July 6th, Davis is scheduled to fight Miguel Madueno in a ten-round lightweight match at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The headline event will showcase WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson defending his title against Artem Harutyunyan.
