Valdez vs. Medina

September 6, 2025 | The Domo Binacional, Nogales, Mexico

Network: TBA

Fight Details

Two-time world champion Oscar Valdez (32-3, 24 KOs) will box on Mexican soil for the first time in 12 years when he meets San Antonio’s Ricky “El Castigo” Medina (16-3, 9 KOs) in a 10-round junior-lightweight main event at the Domo Binacional in Nogales on Saturday, September 6.

The homecoming, co-promoted by Zanfer Boxing and Top Rank, marks a pivotal step for the 34-year-old Valdez as he pursues a third world title. He first reigned at featherweight, defending the WBO belt six times, then stunned Miguel Berchelt in 2021 to claim the WBC crown at 130 lbs. Since losing a unification to Shakur Stevenson in 2022, Valdez has gone 2-2, most recently suffering a sixth-round knockout in his rematch with Emanuel Navarrete last April.

Medina, 27, began his career 13-0 but has faltered against higher-level opposition, dropping decisions to future titlist Raymond Ford, George Acosta and Geo Lopez. He returned to the win column in December with a third-round stoppage of Angel Hernández Pillado and now seeks the biggest victory of his career in Valdez’s backyard.

Tickets for the Nogales show are on sale through xticket.mx.
