Fight Details
Two of boxing’s legendary names, James Toney (77-10-3, 47 KOs) and Donovan “Razor” Ruddock (40-6-1, 30 KOs), are set to share the ring this November in an exhibition bout. This showdown is not just another nostalgic event for boxing fans but has a noble cause behind it. The exhibition, which will be streamed on FITE TV, aims to raise funds for the Good Hope Primary School in St Catherine, Jamaica – a place close to Ruddock’s heart as he once attended it. The funds will support the school’s “Gloves over Guns” youth development programme.
Ruddock, at the age of 59, sees this as an opportunity to give back to his community, stressing that Jamaica needs assistance in tackling its crime problems. He mentioned, “My whole reason for coming out of retirement and getting back into the ring is to assist my primary school in the Red Ground district.” Toney, who is about to turn 55 and retired in 2017, expressed his enthusiasm for the bout, stating he’s “excited to return to the ring and dance with another heavyweight great, Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock.”
The event is scheduled for November 11 in Kingston, Jamaica, famously remembered for the George Foreman-Joe Frazier bout. Ruddock, known for his power punches and battles with Mike Tyson, previously made a short-lived comeback in 2015 at 51. Toney, on the other hand, has a rich history in the sport, transitioning from a middleweight to heavyweight during his career. He has also mentioned that he’s still open to taking certain fights despite his age.
