Noel Mikaelian’s reign as WBC cruiserweight champion has hit yet another roadblock. Initially set to defend his title against Ryan Rozicki (20-1, 19 KOs) on June 10, the fight has been postponed multiple times, first to September, then December 7. The bout has been scrapped entirely due to an "ongoing legal dispute" between Mikaelian and his promoter, Don King, according to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.
While this scenario might seem surprising to some, boxing insiders familiar with King’s history likely saw it coming.
Rozicki will now face Yamil Peralta (17-1, 9 KOs) for the interim WBC cruiserweight title on December 7. The two first clashed in 2022, where Rozicki claimed a highly contentious decision victory in his native Canada. The WBC itself recommended overturning the result, a rare rebuke that left boxing fans questioning the sport's fairness.
This fight will go live on Viewstub PPV for $34.
Peralta, a 2012 Olympian, earned this rematch by defeating former title challenger Thabiso Mchunu earlier this year. However, he’ll once again face the challenge of fighting Rozicki on home soil.
