Former two-division world champion Luis “Pantera” Nery (33-1, 25 KOs) takes on Azat “Crazy A” Hovhannisyan (21-3, 17 KOs) in a 12-round super bantamweight WBC eliminator on Saturday, February 18, at Fox Theater Pomona in Pomona, California.

Nery is a representative of the tough fighters who was born in Tijuana, Mexico. The 28-year-old former two-division world champion had a nearly perfect record before his loss of the WBA and WBC World Super Bantamweight belts to Brandon Figueroa in May 2021. Since then, he has been on a mission to avenge his defeat and return to the top. He defeated Carlos Castro in February 2022 to win the WBC Silver and WBO Inter-Continental Super Bantamweight belts, then in October 2022, he knocked out David Carmona in the third round.
His opponent, Armenian native Hovhannisyan, has progressively moved up the ranks to establish a reputation for himself. With his excellent, aggressive forward style, "Crazy A," 34, has gained the respect of the LA combat scene. With the exception of a convincing unanimous decision victory against Jose Santos Gonzalez in July 2021, his most recent fights have all ended in knockout victories since he unsuccessfully challenged Rey Vargas for the WBC Super Bantamweight Championship belt. Hovhannisyan, who is now ranked No. 2 by the WBC, No. 1 by the WBA, and No. 3 by the WBO, is just a step away from another chance to win a world championship.
