Super middleweight contender Jaime Munguia is set to make his Top Rank debut facing off against undefeated Erik Bazinyan in a headline bout from Glendale, Arizona.
Both Munguia and Bazinyan are facing tough challenges after their recent performances. Munguia, who just reunited with trainer Erik Morales after training with Freddie Roach, suffered a decision loss to Canelo Alvarez in his last fight, during which he was knocked down for the first time in his career. Meanwhile, Bazinyan only managed a controversial draw against Shakeel Phinn in his most recent bout.

The winner of this bout is likely to face Christian Mbilli next, setting the stage for what could be one of the most exciting fights in the division. With Canelo Alvarez maintaining his stronghold and other top contenders like David Benavidez and David Morrell moving up in weight, this fight holds significant implications for the future landscape of the super middleweight category.
"I can’t wait to return to Arizona against an undefeated and motivated Erik Bazinyan and for the fight to be shown on the world’s biggest networks. I fight for the fans and look forward to giving them a great show," said Jaime Munguia, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge.
Erik Bazinyan is equally motivated, seeing this fight as his moment to make a significant impact. "It’s the perfect timing to shock the world. I’ve worked my entire career for this moment, and I know I’ve got everything it takes to beat Jaime Munguia."
In the co-main event, undefeated 25-year-old southpaw Richard Torrez Jr. (10-0, 10 KOs) is looking to continue his knockout streak after securing two stoppage victories in 2024 against Brandon Moore and Donald Haynesworth. Torrez has quickly become a rising force in the heavyweight division. His opponent, Philadelphia's 34-year-old Joey Dawejko (28-11-4, 16 KOs), is fresh off a third-round RTD victory against Walter Burns this past April and will be aiming to derail Torrez's momentum.
Meanwhile, the originally scheduled co-main event featuring Las Vegas native Andres Cortes (22-0, 12 KOs) versus Filipino contender Charly Suarez (17-0, 9 KOs) had to be altered after Cortes withdrew due to an injury sustained during training. Suarez will now face Jorge Castaneda (17-3, 13 KOs) from Laredo, Texas, in a 10-round junior lightweight bout for the vacant WBO Intercontinental title.
Another exciting matchup on the card features rising star Emiliano Fernando Vargas (11-0, 9 KOs) of Oxnard, California, taking on Albany, New York-based Irish fighter Larry Fryers (13-6-1, 5 KOs). This junior welterweight bout, scheduled for eight rounds, will serve as the main card opener and promises plenty of action as Vargas continues to build his reputation in the division.
In other undercard bouts, Demler Zamora (13-0, 9 KOs) faces Gerardo Antonio Perez (12-5-1, 3 KOs) in an eight-round junior lightweight contest. Additionally, Jorge Garcia Perez (30-4, 25 KOs) is set to battle Ilias Essaoudi (22-2, 15 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight clash, which could prove to be an intriguing test for both fighters.
