Junior-bantamweights Argi Cortes and Andrew Moloney are set to square off in the IBF final eliminator, with the winner guaranteed a mandatory shot at the organisation’s vacant 115-lb title.
Mexico City southpaw Cortes (27-4-2, 11 KOs), 29, is promoted by Fernando Beltrán’s Zanfer Boxing and brings a great record built on spirited displays against elite opposition. He pushed three-division champion Junto Nakatani the full 12 rounds in Tokyo last September and went toe-to-toe with Juan Francisco Estrada in a 2022 thriller in Hermosillo before rebounding with two comeback victories, the latest a ninth-round stoppage of Salvador Juárez last August.
Moloney (27-4, 17 KOs), 34, is guided by long-time manager Tony Tolj. The former WBA “regular” belt-holder endured a tough trilogy with Joshua Franco in 2020–21, then suffered a brutal last-gasp knockout to Nakatani for the vacant WBO crown in May 2023. Since then he has won two of three, dropping a narrow split decision to Pedro Guevara for the WBC interim strap before halting Jakrawut Majungoen in four last December.
