Padraig McCrory (18-1, 9 KOs) is gearing up for his return to the ring on Friday, November 1, at the SSE Arena in Belfast. He will face Colombia’s Leonard Carrillo (17-5, 16 KOs) in the main event of a Conlan Boxing promotion. McCrory, who is looking to bounce back after his first career loss to Edgar Berlanga in February, will be eager to put on a strong performance. Berlanga stopped McCrory in the sixth round of their bout in Orlando, and the Puerto Rican has since earned a shot at Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Carrillo, based in Barcelona, holds a record of 17-5 and, despite losing four of his last six fights, remains a dangerous opponent. The 35-year-old has upset potential, as he demonstrated by stopping the previously undefeated Mateusz Tryc in Poland two years ago. Although he suffered a setback in Russia, Carrillo returned to form with a victory in his native Colombia earlier this year. With 16 of his 17 wins coming by knockout, Carrillo poses a significant threat to McCrory, who is also known for his power.
McCrory has taken time off after the Berlanga defeat to assess his future but has decided to continue his career, headlining this event in a bid to get back into title contention. Speaking recently, he reflected on his decision to keep fighting. “There was a stage after the Berlanga fight where I really had to think about what I wanted from boxing,” McCrory said. “I still think I have more to give, and I haven’t had many hard fights, so I think I can have two or three more fights and see where that goes.”
Details of the undercard are expected to be announced soon, with a potential rematch between Ruadhan Farrell and Connor Kerr likely to be part of the action. Their previous clash at the Ulster Hall in March was a thrilling affair, with Farrell claiming the BUI Celtic super-bantamweight title after eight rounds of intense fighting. A return bout between the two, with the Irish title on the line, would add extra excitement to the night.
