Boxing is set to electrify the Sony Hall in Times Square on March 7, as Larry Goldberg takes a stand to reignite the local boxing scene in New York, a city with a rich pugilistic heritage. By spotlighting emerging talents, Goldberg aims to keep the boxing tradition thriving in Manhattan, offering a stage for aspiring fighters to showcase their skills.
The event is headlined by an exciting clash between Ariel Lopez (20-1-1, 11 KOs), a featherweight sensation from Gleason’s Gym, and Gregorio Lebron (24-6, 18 KOs) in an eight-round bout that promises fireworks. Lopez, a native of Mexico now fighting out of Brooklyn, captured the WBC Latino title at 122 pounds in February 2022, marking his ascendancy in the professional ranks with a decisive victory over Wilner Soto. On the other side, Lebron, hailing from the Dominican Republic, took his shot at the WBC world flyweight title in 2018, challenging Artem Dalakian in Kyiv, Ukraine, in a valiant but unsuccessful bid for glory.
Adding to the night's allure is the female co-main event where Brooklyn’s own Chiara “Speedy” Dituri (7-0, 3 KOs), another Gleason’s prodigy, faces Jaica Pavilus (3-6-1, 1 KO) of Harlem in a featherweight matchup. Pavilus, known for her tenacity and willingness to challenge the undefeated, brings a track record of unsettling prospects, making this contest an intriguing test for Dituri.
The card also introduces light heavyweight Emmet Brennan (2-0, 1 KO) from Dublin, Ireland, to the U.S. audience. Brennan, who represented his country in the Tokyo Olympics and is a former Celtic Champion, is set to battle Devaun Lee (11-10-1, 6 KOs) of Queens in what is expected to be a compelling eight-round engagement.
