Lawal vs. Chamberlain

October 21, 2023 | The York Hall, London, England

Network: FITE TV / SKY SPORTS

Fight Details

In the main event, Mikael Lawal (17-0, 11 KOs) is gearing up to defend his British cruiserweight title against a rejuvenated Isaac Chamberlain (15-2, 8 KOs) at the York Hall in London live on Sky Sports.

Lawal, who remains undefeated, secured his title against David Jamieson last November but has not yet defended it. On the other hand, Chamberlain in one of his recent fights against Chris Billam Smith, sustained a broken orbital bone, which led to his defeat.

Initially the main event should have consisted of Joshua Buatsi fighting against Dan Azeez in an eagerly awaited light heavyweight fight. But, BOXXER announced the postponement of their fight due to a back injury Azeez suffered in training. The new fight date remains undetermined, but existing tickets will be honored, with full refunds available for those who can’t attend the rescheduled event.

In the undercard, Louis “The Medway Mauler” Greene (16-3, 10 KOs) prepares to defend his Commonwealth super-welterweight title for the third time against Sam “Magic Man” Gilley (16-1, 8 KOs).

Greene, who secured the Commonwealth title with a fifth-round knockout last November, defended his championship in May, taking down Paul Kean in Dundee. Conversely, Gilley, hailing from Walthamstow and holding the English super-welterweight title, cemented his title opportunity by landing a remarkable knockout punch against Ellis Corrie (at London’s York Hall) in June.

Adding to the evening’s exhilaration, 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Karriss Artingstall (4-0, 0 KOs) will mark her fifth professional bout at The O2. Moreover, in a bout steeped in British boxing heritage, Michael Hennessy (11-1, 2 KOs) is set to face Harley Benn (9-2, 1 KO). Both fighters carry legendary surnames—Hennessy, the son of prominent British boxing manager Mick Hennessy, and Benn, offspring of the former two-weight world champion, Nigel Benn.
