Polish boxing returns to its old stomping grounds at the Prudential Center on Saturday, February 1, when unbeaten Damian Knyba (14-0, 8 KOs) faces former title challenger Andrzej Wawrzyk (34-4, 20 KOs) in a ten-round heavyweight clash headlining the event dubbed "Winter Warfare." Promoted by PrimeTime Promotions, the bout harkens back to the days when Tomasz Adamek packed the Newark venue with electric crowds.
Knyba, a towering 6'7" slugger from Wudzyn, is on the fast track after a highlight-reel knockout of Richard Lartey last November. Managed by Top Rank, he now faces his toughest test to date in Wawrzyk, a 37-year-old veteran who previously fought for a world title against Alexander Povetkin and went the distance with current WBA titlist Kubrat Pulev. A victory could propel Knyba to the next level, but Wawrzyk’s experience can’t be overlooked.
Also featured is Fiodor Czerkaszyn (25-1, 15 KOs), another Polish contender who will battle in an eight-round middleweight co-feature. Former IBF and WBO women's champion Miyo Yoshida (17-5, 0 KOs) takes on Beata Dudek (5-5, 4 KOs) in a crowd-pleasing eight-rounder.
Tickets are on sale at prucenter.com and ticketmaster.com, with the televised portion airing in Poland on TVP Sport, promising a night rich in Polish boxing tradition.
