In a tripleheader scheduled for January 20, two former Trainers of the Year will oversee their young, unbeaten fighters on the first SHOBOX: The New Generation card of 2023. James "Buddy" McGirt's promising super middleweight prospect Sean Hemphill (14-0, 8 KOs) will compete against Ronnie Shields-trained prodigy David Stevens (11-0, 8 KOs). The 27-year-old Hemphill was scheduled to face Joe George in his SHOBOX debut in February 2021, but the bout was called off due to an injury sustained in training. Because of the same reason, the Hemphill-Stevens fight was also canceled in October 2022 during fight week.
Kings Promotions, run by Marshall Kauffman, is in charge of promoting the three-fight telecast.
In the co-main event, an eight-round light heavyweight fight between Philadelphia's Atif Oberlton (7-0, 6 KOs) and Fort Lauderdale, Florida's Artem Brusov (12-0, 11 KOs) takes place. As the first fight on the televised card, Reading's Julian Gonzalez (8-0-1, 8 KOs) and Ellwood City's Rosalindo Morales (9-0, 2 KOs) test their unbeaten records in an eight-round super featherweight contest.
