Unbeaten Puerto Rican champion Oscar Collazo will defend his WBA and WBO minimumweight titles on September 20 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, facing Filipino challenger Jayson Vayson.
Collazo (12-0, 9 KOs) is making his first defense of the WBA belt he claimed last November in Riyadh, where he dethroned long-reigning champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong. Already regarded as one of the most complete fighters in the division, the 27-year-old is eager to make a statement in his U.S. return—the same country where he won his first world title in 2023.
Vayson (14-1-1, 8 KOs) enters with momentum, carrying a four-fight win streak that includes a March victory over Jirawat Aiamong. The 25-year-old will be making his U.S. debut, having previously fought in Thailand, Japan, and the Philippines. This bout marks the biggest opportunity of his career and a chance to shock one of boxing’s fastest-rising stars.
For Collazo, the fight represents another step in solidifying his dominance at 105 pounds, while for Vayson it’s the chance to leap from relative obscurity into world championship glory. Indio, a proven boxing hotbed, will set the stage.
