Abass Baraou (15-1, 9 KOs), the promising super welterweight and current EBU Super Welterweight champion, has announced his first title defense against Scottish fighter Macaulay McGowan (20-4-2, 5 KOs). The bout, which will be aired globally on DAZN and on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom, is set to take place at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester.

Baraou, a seasoned amateur and an impressive super welterweight contender, comes off a stirring and well-fought majority decision win against former EBU, WBC Silver, and IBO World champion Sam Eggington. In a contentious bout, Baraou managed to defeat the hardened Brit in Telford in March. The only loss for the high-flying German came at the hands of Jack Culcay during the height of COVID, where Culcay delivered a spirited effort and won by split decision.

Macaulay McGowan is looking to successfully challenge at the next level after two previous attempts left him empty-handed. His first attempt was against Tursynbay Kulakhmet, who was only 1-0 at the time, for the WBC International Super Welterweight belt. Three years later, he faced Tyler Denny for the EBU External Super Welterweight title but was again unsuccessful.

Baraou, with only one blemish on his record, is looking to make a straightforward first defense as he sets his sights on the world stage. Meanwhile, McGowan seeks to finally find success beyond the national level. This fight promises to be an intriguing matchup, with both fighters eager to prove themselves and advance their careers.
