Fight Details
Angel Ayala (17-0, 7 KOs) and Dave Apolinario (20-0, 14 KOs) are gearing up for an intense battle to claim the IBF 112 pound title, a match set to take place on August 9 in Mexico City.
Zanfer Boxing, the promoter for Ayala, secured the rights with a bid of $250,500. Both fighters are looking at a payday of $125,250 each from the split purse.
Ayala, currently ranked sixth in the 112-pound division and the mandatory challenger, heads into this fight following a contentious victory over Felix Alvarado in Merida last October. Despite the debate surrounding his win, Ayala's strong performance has positioned him well for this showdown with another unbeaten contender.
Apolinario, hailing from the Philippines and ranked third by IBF, may have fewer fights under his belt but has been gaining valuable international experience. His recent victories outside his home country include a decisive win over Tanes Ongjunta in Tokyo earlier this year.
Initially considered for an event in Tokyo featuring Naoya Inoue and Luis Nery on May 6th, Ayala and Apolinario's bout was rescheduled to compete for the IBF title. Both fighters will now compete for the empty championship in an eagerly awaited showdown in Mexico City.
