The International Boxing Federation (IBF) has mandated a crucial strawweight title eliminator fight between Filipino contenders Jake Amparo (14-4-1, 3 KOs) and former champion Pedro Taduran (15-4-1, 12 KOs). The winner of this matchup will earn the status of the number-one challenger for the title currently held by Daniel Valladares.
The IBF’s order sets the stage for an exciting contest within the mini flyweight division. Amparo, ranked third, and Taduran, ranked fourth, have both expressed their willingness to participate in this eliminator, setting up a highly anticipated clash between two of the division’s top fighters. The fighters and their teams have been given a 15-day period, starting from September 11, to agree on terms for this pivotal bout.
Pedro Taduran, from Manila, previously held the IBF strawweight title, which he won in September 2019 by stopping the then-undefeated Samuel Salva. Taduran’s reign as champion saw a mix of success and setbacks, including a technical draw against Valladares in a title defense and back-to-back defeats to Rene Mark Cuarto.
On the other hand, Jake Amparo, the 26-year-old fighter from Bohol, is on the rise, having won his last three fights since a split decision loss to Huu Toan Le. Amparo's recent victory over Goki Kobayashi in Japan underscores his potential and determination to claim his first major title.
