Biography
Lenier Peró, born on November 24, 1992, in Camagüey, Cuba, is a highly decorated Cuban heavyweight boxer known for his powerful southpaw stance and technical precision. Nicknamed "El Justiciero," Peró's amateur career was marked by significant achievements, including gold medals at the Youth Olympics (2010), Youth World Championships (2010), and Pan American Games (2011, 2015). His Olympic journey in 2016 ended in the quarterfinals, where he fell to Croatia's Filip Hrgović after an earlier victory over Guido Vianello of Italy. Coming from a boxing family, his younger brother, Dainier Peró, is also a Pan American gold medalist and Olympian.
Peró transitioned to professional boxing in May 2019 and quickly established himself as a rising force. After winning his debut via first-round TKO, he continued an undefeated streak that included capturing the WBA Fedelatin heavyweight title in December 2020. He successfully defended that belt twice in 2021 and early 2022, showcasing his power with swift stoppages. His ability to blend Cuban-style footwork with finishing ability has made him one of the more intriguing prospects in the heavyweight division.
One of his standout moments came on February 12, 2023, when he upset the previously unbeaten Victor Vykhryst, a two-time amateur world champion. Targeting the body effectively, Peró broke down his opponent over eight rounds, signaling his readiness for higher-profile fights. Now with a professional record of 12 wins, including 8 by knockout, and no losses, Peró is steadily climbing the ranks and positioning himself for a potential world title shot.
As he continues to compete under Premier Boxing Champions, Peró remains a fighter to watch in the heavyweight division. With a blend of amateur pedigree and growing professional experience, he is well-poised to challenge the top contenders in the years ahead.
